Game Night: Rangers @ Flyers
Rangers and Flyers face-off in their first matchup of the season
The Rangers' acting first line has been on fire!
NY Rangers @
Philadelphia Flyers
7:00 p.m.
Wells Fargo Center
Rangers Record: 6-4-1
Flyers Record: 7-4-1
Tonight, Nov. 4, the Rangers travel to Philadelphia to take
on the Flyers. The Rangers, who have won their last two games, look to continue
their hot streak with a win over a division rival. The Flyers, riding a
four-game win streak, will try to keep their momentum going as well. For
Rangers fans, the memory of last season’s shootout loss to the Flyers, deciding
the final playoff spot, still stings, and it will be interesting to see how
these two teams react in their first meeting since that decisive game.
The Rangers are enjoying a seven-game point-scoring streak
from alternate captain Ryan Callahan, as well as great play from his linemates,
Brandon Dubinsky and Artem Anisimov. Dubinsky has seven points over his last
six games, including two goals in the Rangers’ most recent game, against
Chicago. Anisimov has four points in the last three games, also recording a
multi-point effort in the last game with two assists. This line has been
serving as the Rangers’ number one while Marian Gaborik, Chris Drury and Vinny
Prospal are all sidelined with injuries.
The Flyers have been on an incredibly hot streak lately, led
by captain Mike Richards, who is riding a four-game point-scoring streak. Young
Claude Giroux is also enjoying a four-game point streak, including four goals
and seven points over that period. The Flyers will be hampered however, by
injuries to veteran defenseman Andrej Meszaros and forward Andres Nodl, both of
whom are listed as day-to-day, and goalie Michael Leighton, who is recovering
from surgery. Additionally, Flyers’ center Danny Briere will not be playing as
he serves the second day of his three-game suspension, assessed for a hit to the
head of the Islanders’ Frans Nielsen last Saturday.
The goalie matchup sets the Rangers’ Henrik Lundqvist
(5-3-1) against Flyers rookie Sergei Bobrovsky, who has been starting in
Leighton’s absence.
The puck drops at 7, and pre-game ceremonies will include
Flyers’ broadcaster and former player Bill Clement pledging his citizenship to the United
States. It should be an exciting and passion-filled game, so be sure to watch!
