How far will the Rangers get this season?

The Rangers have signed Roman Horak, the team’s fifth round pick in 2009.  Horak, 19, posted 26 goals and 52 assists in 64 games for the WHL’s Chilliwack Bruins this season.  Next year he’ll almost certainly end up with the Connecticut Whale.

Horak hales from the Czech Republic but has completed two full seasons in North America with the Bruins.  In 2009-2010, he tallied 21 goals and 26 assists in 66 games.  Obviously, Horak exploded this season and many were puzzled about why he hadn’t received a deal yet.

Today’s news makes it very clear that Horak is indeed part of the Rangers’ plans.  He joins Ryan Bourque, Carl Hagelin, and Dylan McIlrath as prospects the Rangers have signed this offseason.  Still un-signed are Chris Kreider, Scott Stajcer, Ethan Werek and Christian Thomas, although Thomas should be inking his deal any day now.

- Also, in case you missed it yesterday, the Stanley Cup will be in New Jersey tomorrow.  Andrew Gross reports that the Stanley Cup will be in Hackensack, New Jersey on Saturday from 3:30-6:00.  It’ll be on display at Ice House hockey rink and fans will have the opportunity to get their picture taken with the Cup for free.
