- Mark Messier will
run the New York City Marathon on November 6 to raise money for the New
York Police & Fire Widow’s and Children’s Benefit Fund and Tomorrows
Children’s Fund.
- A Vancouver-area spa is offering $50 gift certificates to
anyone that turns themselves in for
participating in June’s riots following the Canucks’ Stanley Cup loss.
- Anaheim Ducks forward Jason Blake will miss
the next three months after suffering severe tendon damage above his wrist
during Friday’s game against the San Jose Sharks.
- L.A. Kings defenseman Drew Doughty will
miss the next seven-to-10 days with an upper-body injury.
- Edmonton Oilers forward Ales Hemsky will
miss the next two weeks with a strained shoulder.
- Columbus center Jeff Carter has a hairline
fracture in his right foot but isn’t expected to miss much time.
- Evgeni Malkin will
sit out at for at least two more games with knee soreness.
- Antti Niemi is expected
to make his first start of the season for the Sharks tonight.
- Blue Jackets are 3-16-8 in
their last 27 games after starting the season 0-4-1.
- 20 of the 30 NHL teams have already participated
in a shootout this year.
- Minnesota Wild defenseman Greg Zanon scored on Saturday to snap a
135-game goal drought. Zanon had the
second-longest scoreless streak in the league after Lightning defenseman
Matthias Ohlund, who has gone 141 games without scoring.
- Phil Kessel is off to a tremendous start this season; he’s
got five goals
and three assists in just three games.
- 2011 first-overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored a hat
trick on Saturday for Edmonton.
- The teams that have yet to lose in regulation: Philadelphia,
Toronto, Washington and Detroit.
- The teams that have yet to win a game: Winnipeg, Columbus
and the New York Rangers.
