- The Colorado Avalanche picked up its fifth-straight road win
last night, a 3-2 OT victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Avalanche is the first
team to reach 10 points and sits atop the Western Conference. Colorado had five road
wins after Christmas last year.
- Phil Kessel picked up his league-leading sixth
goal for Toronto.
- The Florida Panthers crushed the Tampa Bay Lightning 7-4
last night thanks to a huge night on special teams. Florida racked up five
power play goals and a shorthanded marker. Stephen Weiss led the way with a four-point
night.
- Tampa Bay is struggling in large part because of 42-year-old
goalie Dwayne Roloson, who’s allowed 12
goals on the last 51 shots he’s faced.
- Marc-Andre Bergeron picked up three assists for the
Lightning, giving him eight
points on the season. He had eight
points in 23 games last season.
- The Jets picked up their first win last night, a 2-1 victory
over a raucous crowd in Winnipeg. That
means only two teams have yet to win a game this season – Columbus and
the New York Rangers.
- Anaheim picked up its fourth-straight win, a 3-2 victory
over the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks
have dropped three in a row.
- 41-year-old Teemu Selanne scored twice for Anaheim including
a goal on the power play which moved him into fifth
all-time.
- The St. Louis Blues put Andy McDonald on
injured reserve with a concussion.
- Pittsburgh forward Tyler Kennedy also has concussion-like
symptoms.
- International Scouting Services released its top
30 players for the 2012 draft.
- These might be the 2012
Winter Classic jerseys.
- There are 10 games on the schedule
tonight. Pittsburgh @ Minnesota will
be on Versus at 7:30 p.m. ET.
