Michael Del Zotto wore the Broadway Hat last night after yet another impressive performance

When: Sunday, November 6th, 7:00 p.m.

Opponent: Winnipeg (5-6-2)

Rangers stats: (6-3-3)

TV: MSG

Update: Marty Biron will make his third start of the season for New York.

Earlier: The Rangers face off today against the Winnipeg Jets in the final game of the team’s six-game homestand. The last time these two teams took the ice, in the final game of the Rangers’ road trip, the tired Blueshirts eked out a 2-1 despite being outshot 12-1 by the Jets in the 3rd period. Former Ranger Nik Antropov tied the score at one in the 2nd period, but Rangers’ captain Ryan Callahan was credited with the go-ahead goal after his shot bounced past goaltender Chris Mason off of Zach Bogosian’s skate.

Antropov now leads his team in scoring with three goals and eight assists, but he sat out last night’s game against the Devils after taking a shot to the hand in Thursday night’s game. The Jets’ injured reserve list took another major hit with the addition of Antropov, adding to an already lengthy list of key players. A lower-body injury to Chris Mason necessitated the call up of AHL goaltender Peter Mannino, and the Jets called up three more minor league defensemen due to injuries to five regular blueliners, including Mark Stuart and Tobias Entsrom. The Jets battled back from a 2-0 hole against the Devils last night with a goal by one of the AHL call-ups, defenseman Mark Flood, but the rookie’s first NHL goal and another fantastic game by goaltender Ondrej Pavelec weren’t enough to earn the Jets the win, as Devils’ rookie Adam Henrique scored his second of the game to end it in overtime.

The Rangers’ injured reserve is headlined by a single name: Marc Staal. Despite a vastly improved performance by Michael Del Zotto and the return of stalwart dman Michael Sauer, the team has missed its top defensemen from the start, prompting the signing of Swedish defenseman Anton Stralman. Stralman will join the team as the 7th defenseman on the Rangers’ upcoming road trip. Fan favorite Sean Avery, after being recalled from the Connecticut Whale following the news that Mike Rupp will be out indefinitely with a knee injury, jumped right into the lineup against the Canadiens on a line with Andre Deveaux and Erik Christensen.

After last night’s thrashing of the Canadiens, the Rangers’ lineup is expected to stay the same against the Jets. Ryan Callahan and Artem Anisimov missed some ice time in the game after being banged up a bit, but both played the end of the game and will probably play tonight. The much-maligned Erik Christensen and slumping Anisimov earned two points in the first period alone, and Derek Stepan added two assists of his own. Michael Del Zotto potted the Rangers’ third goal after making a beautiful move, proving once again to his naysayers that his confidence is on the rise.

Marty Biron will get his third start of the season tonight against Ondrej Pavelec, who has been spectacular for the injury-laden Jets. If the Rangers can put together yet another sixty-minute effort with offensive contributions from all four lines, the Blueshirts will be sure to end the six-game homestand with a bang.
