The Blueshirts kick off a four game road trip this week.
Round two against the rival Islanders is on the slate for Tuesday night. The Rangers fell 4-2 to the Isles last month at Nassau Colliseum in a penalty ridden affair off the heels of a rusty return from Europe.
Keep an eye on: NYR Marian Gaborik and Brandon Dubinsky. Gaborik has looked dynamic with the puck so far this season making his presence known. When the puck hits his stick, he's taking it to the net and shining with his latest linemates Derek Stepan and Artem Anisimov. Gaborik leads the team with nine goals. Dubinsky scored his first goal of the season on Thursday and was back to his chippy battling ways along the boards. Perhaps the untimely penalty plague has finally passed.
NYI John Tavares and Goaltending triangle. Tavares leads the Isles in points (13), goals (8) and powerplay goals (4). Tavares had a hat trick to lead the Isles to victory over the Rangers last time around. The 2009 first round draft pick is off to a strong start this season. The Isles continue to play musical chairs in net to ride the hot glove with injury plagued Rick DiPietro and inconsistent rookie Al Montoya and veteran Evgeni Nabokov.
The Rangers then head to Montreal to take on the Canadiens who they defeated 5-3 earlier this month at the Garden. The Habs have most of next week off at home following a 2-1 overtime victory over the Predators in Nashville on Saturday. Max Paccioretty scored in overtime while Peter Budaj made 25 saves. The Habs have won six of their last ten games.
Keep an eye on: PK Subban and Sean Avery. Sparks, bodies and verbal jabs are bound to fly.
Upcoming: @ Islanders, Nov. 15, 7 p.m.; @ Canadiens, Nov. 19, 7 p.m.
