Rangers @ Edmonton
9:30pm, Rexall Place
Rangers Record: 9-6-1
Oilers Record: 7-7-1
The
Rangers are looking to bounce back after a wild third period Tuesday night that
started with some grit and quite a few penalties for both teams and ended in a
total collapse for the Blueshirts who gave up three unanswered goals.
Tom
Renney’s Oilers like the Rangers had a fast start at the beginning of the
season but due to some key injuries and the flu which bounced around the locker
room has led them to go 1-5-0 in the previous six.
While
the Rangers Lisin(foot) and Brashear(undisclosed) are still questionable for
tonight’s game the Oilers get a key addition back on the blue line but loose
their top-line center. Steve Staios will skate tonight after a concussion
sidelined him the last couple of weeks, while Sam Gagner will miss a few games
with a shoulder injury.
With
some noticeable struggles on defense for the Rangers on Tuesday they will be
tested again as Edmonton brings two exciting and potent offensive players to the
rink tonight; Hemsky(4-11-15) and Penner (9-10-19).
The
Rangers need to take the body, especially with Hemsky who is great in open ice
as well as find a way to get Gaborik some time to make plays. Vancouver’s
Willie Mitchell was very effective in shutting down the Ranger Ace, and you can
assume Edmonton was taking notes.
The
Blueshirts will go up against Nikolai Khabibulin who has been mediocre as of yet
going 6-6-1 in his thirteen starts with a 3.12 GAA.
