Bulletin Board: Ducks Fire Carlyle, Replace Him With Boudreau

Bruce Boudreau is already back behind an NHL bench

The Bulletin Board keeps you abreast of the latest news around the NHL Monday-Friday.

- Entering last night the Anaheim Ducks had lost 16 of 18 games and clearly it was time for a change.  Everyone thought the team was on the verge of dealing Bobby Ryan, but instead the team fired Coach Randy Carlyle and replaced him with Bruce Boudreau.  Boudreau was axed by Washington earlier this week but was obviously considered a great commodity and the Ducks acted quickly to scoop him up.  Boudreau has a reputation for being a players’ coach, a very different approach from Carlyle’s, so we’ll see if the Ducks respond.

- The hiring of Boudreau may put all those Ryan trade rumors to rest, but yesterday Ryan said that if the circumstances were right, he’d “welcome” a trade out of Anaheim.  The Rangers were thought to be highly interested in acquiring Ryan.

- Carlyle was fired even though the Ducks finally picked up a victory, 4-1 over Montreal.  The Canadiens are 0-for-23 on the power play over their last five games.

- Boston beat Toronto 6-3 to cap a remarkable 12-0-1 November.  Boston’s only loss came on Friday in a shootout at the hands of Detroit.  Milan Lucic scored twice for the Bruins and Tim Thomas made 34 saves.  In November Thomas went 9-0-0 with a 1.76 goals against average, a .941 save percentage and three shutouts.

- Minnesota slipped by Edmonton 3-2 in a shootout to pick up its franchise record 11th win of the monthKyle Brodziak scored the game-tying goal and eventual shootout winner.  Ryan Nugent-Hopkins picked up another goal and an assist for the Oilers, giving him 11 goals and 16 assists in just 25 games.

- Colorado crushed New Jersey 6-1 as Martin Brodeur allowed six goals on 25 shots.  Ryan O’Reilly had three points for the Avalanche.

- Detroit scored its sixth victory in a row over, 4-2 over Tampa Bay.

- Boston inked David Krejci to a three-year, $15.75 million contract extension.

- Tampa Bay signed defenseman Victor Hedman to a five-year, $20 million contract extension.

- Ken Daneyko and John MacLean have joined Kirk Muller’s coaching staff in Carolina.

- Pittsburgh recalled top defensive prospect Simon Despres.

- Here’s Forbes’ annual list of NHL team values.

- There are eight games on the schedule tonightSidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin will clash as the Penguins visit the Capitals at 7:00 p.m. on the NHL Network.
