The Bulletin Board keeps you abreast of the latest news
around the NHL Monday-Friday.
- The World Junior Championships begin today. Here’s a preview
of Team USA and an overview of the
tournament. Rangers prospects J.T.
Miller and Peter Ceresnak will play for the United States and Slovakia,
respectively.
- Boston took over first place in the Eastern Conference on Friday
with an 8-0 thrashing of Florida. Brad
Marchand recorded a hat trick and two assists to lead the way for the Bruins,
but Benoit Pouliot’s highlight
reel goal was the story of the night.
- The Devils won their eighth shootout of the year, slipping
by Washington 4-3. New Jersey blew a
three-goal lead but relied on the skills competition to bail them out yet
again.
- Tuomo Ruutu’s tip-in goal in overtime sent Carolina to a 2-1
victory over Ottawa heading into the Christmas break.
- Defenseman Zbynek Michalek returned
to Pittsburgh’s lineup as the Penguins defeated Winnipeg 4-1. Steve Sullivan picked up his 700th
career point in the contest.
- Colorado matched a franchise record with its eighth straight
win on home ice on Friday, a 2-1 victory in overtime over Tampa Bay. Matt Duchene scored the game-winner.
- Dallas scored three times in the first period against
Nashville, causing the Predators to
yank Pekka Rinne. The Stars went on
to win 6-3.
- Toronto gave coach Ron Wilson a nice Christmas present in
the form of a
contract extension.
- If you recall, the Rangers were in negotiations with
defenseman Paul Mara just a couple of months ago. But Mara never signed and now he’s
coaching high school hockey.
- San Jose recalled
goalie Antero Niittymaki, who is finally healthy, from the AHL.
- Puck Daddy counts down the top
10 fights of 2011.
- The case against Mike Millbury has been thrown
out due to insufficient evidence.
- There are 10 games on the schedule tonight. Dallas @ St. Louis will be on Versus at 7:30
p.m.
