How far will the Rangers get this season?

It is not the end of the world
Effort not excuses is needed for a win in game 3

It was 9:04 of the first period when you should have realized that the Rangers were in trouble in game 2. Failing to get even 1 power play goal out of 3 gifts from the Pittsburgh Penguins led to the eventual 3-0 loss in game 2 of this series.

While Ranger coach Alain Vigneault took responsibility for the failures on the power play and said he was going to spend the night trying to find the solution(s) to the power play woes. I can spare him the time and energy by telling him that the power play is not going to work as long as you have players standing still, not willing or able to generate traffic in front of Penguin goal Marc-Andre Fleury and most of all not attacking the net.

People are screaming for changes in the lineup for game 3 but really who are you going to sit? Not Dan Carcillo who has been an active force for the Rangers and is as close to an enforcer as the Rangers have. Sidney Crosby isn’t scoring so I am not wanting to break up the 4th line who has helped keep him off the board.

Unless Chris Kreider is ready to return then there really isn’t an option to take players out of the lineup. Yes I get it the Rangers should be exhausted but that is life in the NHL playoffs, it isn’t a skill’s competition any more but a battle of survival.

Henrik Lundqvist played his best game of the playoffs in game 2 after really being average in the Flyer series. As long as Henrik Lundqvist remains hot then the Rangers have a chance.

Sure I didn’t like the loss but I think some people are forgetting that most people should be happy going home 1-1 after taking away home ice from the Penguins. If the Rangers continue this odd/even madness then things should look good for game 3.

Let’s remember as tired as the Rangers are supposed to be, Pittsburgh is a much older team and they had to go 6 games against a more physical Columbus. All is not lost and the Rangers can recover to win this series.

So can we put down the obituaries about the end of the Ranger season since it is just 1-1. It would be nice for the Rangers to find a way to win back to back games and who knows they just might grab game’s 3 and 4.

The only wish I really have is for one New York Ranger to stand up and grab the leadership of this team. OK make it two wishes as I would also like to see the Rangers keep skating as if they do they will take out the older Pittsburgh.
