Is Martin St. Louis a Hall of Famer?

No shame in losing the Stanley Cup

If you came here expecting to see some kind of obituary for the 2013-2014 New York Rangers then sorry you came to the wrong place. Yes the Rangers losing the Stanley Cup finals in game 5 was a disappointment and yes losing in double overtime was a heartbreak.

But that was yesterday and today there is a lot to be proud of if you live and die wearing your Broadway Blue. For starters there is no question about the quality of people who wear that Ranger uniform. To watch the team come together after the passing of Marty St. Louis’s mother spoke volumes about the quality and characters of those who wear the Ranger’s uniform.

There was defeating longtime rival Philadelphia in the first round which erased the sting of days past when it was the Flyers who got the upper hand on the Rangers. There was defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins for the first time in a playoff series, a win made better by the Rangers rallying from down 1-3 to defeat the Penguins in 7 games.

It was the first time the Rangers had ever come back from being down 1-3 in franchise history. It was a win that would cost the Pittsburgh GM and coaches their jobs.

Then there was the Montreal Canadiens who came into the series as favorites and were sent packing in 6 games. Those Ghosts of Canadiens past did not come back to haunt the Rangers.

There is no shame in losing to the Kings who are a good team in their own right but outside of one game they were not the dominating monsters the experts claimed they would be. Know that in your heart the Rangers stood toe to toe with the monster and they needed 3 overtime games in order to defeat the Rangers.

Not bad for a team that nobody ever expected to make it to the Stanley Cup Finals.

So forgive me if I choose to enjoy this season after enduring the past 20 years since the last cup. Yes it would have been awesome to win the cup this season but unlike other times when the Rangers made the finals, this team left me feeling positive about tomorrow.

The sun will come up tomorrow and it might even be the color of Broadway Blue.
