The Greenville Road Warriors were playing game 5 of their ECHL conference final series against the Cincinnatti Cyclones. Sadly the Cyclones were unable to defeat the Cyclones and trail in the series 3-2 as they head back to Cincinatti for games 6 and 7. Here is Andy Zilch's (Media Relations Managr for the Road Warriors) game report.
The Road Warriors fell to Cincinnati 2-1 Sunday afternoon after the Cyclones
staged a comeback in the third period with two goals. The win gives Cincinnati
a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series.
The first period was a scoreless period for the first time this
series. Despite both teams each having two power play opportunities, neither
team was able to capitalize with the extra man advantage. The Cyclones outshot
the Road Warriors 14-8 during the period.
The second period remained tied at 0-0 until 1:37 left in the
frame. Kyle Jean gave the Road Warriors the lead after hitting a backhander
past Madore on the power play. It was his seventh goal of the playoffs and
Michael St. Croix and Josh Nicholls were awarded the assists. The period ended
with Greenville outshooting Cincinnati 10-6 and leading 1-0.
Trevor Lewis tied the game 9:42
into the third period after sneaking a low shot past Malcolm on the fifth
Cyclones power play of the night. Zach Budish continued the Cyclones’ third
period comeback scoring with 8:08 left in the period when his shot hit off Sam
Klassen’s skate and into the net. The Road Warriors were unable to stage
another third period comeback and the Cyclones defeated Greenville 2-1. Malcolm
took the hard-luck loss with 31 saves. Rob Madore saved 29 shots for the win.
