Print Edition to Discontinue After 25 Successful Seasons

NEW YORK, October 9, 2017 – Owner of Blueshirt Publishing, LLC, Daniel Akeson, announced today that, after 25 successful seasons of print coverage, Blueshirt Bulletin, the only monthly independent publication covering New York hockey, will focus solely on digital content.

“This is a bittersweet moment for Blueshirt Bulletin and a decision that was not made lightly,” said Akeson. “Blueshirt Bulletin has been a staple of New York hockey coverage for a quarter century, with a rich history and a devoted subscriber and fan base.

However, as our subscribers have consumed our content differently, it is important that we apply our resources to where we can reach the greatest target audience.”

Blueshirt Bulletin currently utilizes an extensive social media presence, active content-based website, professional podcast, as well as state-of-the-art app which will all be enhanced in the coming months.

Blueshirt Bulletin coverage isn’t going away by any means, we will continue bringing our professional content and the analysis of those writers closest to the team and will have the advantage of reaching a wider audience and having immediate news, rather than waiting for a typical print cycle,” added Akeson. “Most importantly, the magazine isn’t ending, it’s just being reintroduced in the latest digital-friendly format via our app that we think our fans and subscribers will love.”

Blueshirt Bulletin will see its final print issue, a special 40-page commemorative edition, mailed to subscribers on October 30th. Contributors throughout the publication’s history will be providing not only their expert analysis, but also personal memories of Blueshirt Bulletin’s print history.

Fans will be able to purchase individual copies of the commemorative edition by visiting

“We all at #TeamBulletin are a little sad and melancholy about the print chapter closing, but we’re equally excited and enthusiastic about what’s in store for the near future,” said Akeson.

Following the final print edition, Blueshirt Publishing, LLC will be initiating refunds for remaining subscriptions. In anticipation of this change, several renewals were not processed over the last 60 days. However, recently expired subscribers will not be impacted and will still receive the final issue. Subscribers can expect to receive their refunds by January 31st, 2018.

Due to App Store restrictions, print subscriptions cannot be converted to digital app subscriptions.
