Prospect Park: Just Ugly

In News, Prospect Park by Jess Rubenstein

Libor Hajek (Regina Pats)

No other way to put it but the Baby Ranger’s 5-0 loss to the Baby Red Wings was just ugly. There was nothing good or bad as this was a very disappointing game to play by the team. Instead of playing for a championship, the Rangers will be playing to avoid a last-place finish.

A scoreless first period is about as close to a good highlight as one could get. However, the Rangers continued their parade to the penalty box. Three minors in the first were just the beginning of the sin bin parade as the Rangers gave the Red Wings 10 power-plays total.

Sorry for those hoping to see Libor Hajek make the team out of training camp; it appears that is unrealistic at this point. Hajek has played weakly in the three games and it is hard to see him beating out anyone for a roster spot. For Hajek that might be best as his defensive side needs a lot of work. Hajek has one point (1-0-1), is a -2 and has taken four minors.

At the same time, Ryan Lindgren has to be questioned as well for he too has had trouble staying out of the penalty box. Like Hajek, Lindgren has one point (1-0-1) but is even with four minors. With defense being his specialty, Lindgren can be viewed a tad harsher for his play. If he can’t stay out of the penalty box then he isn’t much use.

Filip Chytil (Czech Rep))

Filip Chytil came down to earth after his outstanding first two games. Chytil could not get the offense going on the power-play but the blame was not all his. He struggled on faceoffs and looked uncomfortable trying to play a physical game.

Lias Andersson simply has not shown up for these games and that has to be unacceptable for someone the Rangers are counting on. Other than the first game, Andersson has not done anything to suggest he is a top-six forward. If anything the lack of consistent play is coming to haunt him. Still, believe Andersson’s future is on the wing and his play here adds more fuel to the fire.

Toss in Nico Gross (invisible), Joey Keane (lost), and Brett Howden (MIA) and that is why they lost 5-0. Place a lot of the blame on the coaches who should have kicked these kids in their rear ends to get them going.

If you want to watch the last game on Tuesday against the winless Blues, game time is 3 PM EDT/12 PM PDT.

It doesn’t seem like it has been 17 years but here we are on another anniversary of that horrible day. It was supposed to be a day where the Rangers were opening training camp. The Rangers had moved their training camp to Chelsea Piers. Glen Sather trying to make peace with Ranger fans opening the doors for the fans to watch. Instead, a nightmare took place and many of us were never the same again.

I grew up watching them build the World Trade Center and the image of her falling shook me to my core.
