Prospect Park: Three Prospects Three Secondary Assists

A real sleepy Sunday for the New York Ranger prospects as three saw action and one sat out a suspension. The three who saw action all recorded a secondary assist but not all three won.

Defenseman Nico Gross had a secondary assist as his Oshawa Generals defeated the Peterborough Petes 4-1. Gross recorded his second assist of the season on Oshawa’s third goal of the game. an even-strength goal at 10:27 of the second. It put the Generals up 3-1 and they cruised from there as they extended their unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1).

Gross was also a +2 on three shots as he improves to 1-2-3 on the season. Oshawa improves to 6-4-1 good for fourth place in the OHL’s East Division.

Riley Hughes and his Victoria Grizzlies dropped a 6-5 shootout decision to the Surrey Eagles.  Hughes had a secondary assist on the Grizzlies fifth goal for his 11th assist and 17th point. The assist at the time gave the Grizzlies a 5-3 in the third period but they didn’t hold the lead.

Neither team, of course, scored in the overtime period and in the shootout saw the Eagles scored twice to the Grizzlies one. Hughes was the third shooter for the Grizzlies and he missed on his attempt.

Hughes with the point entered the BCHL’s top twenty in scoring at 20 and is fourth among rookie scorers. The Grizzlies still lead the BCHL’s Island Division with a 10-6-0-1 record.

Exhibition Hockey

Morgan Barron had a secondary assist as his seventh-ranked Cornell Big Red whipped Guelph 7-0 in exhibition action. He earned his assist on Cornell’s third goal of the game and was a +3 on two shots.

Barron is entering his sophomore season and is listed as the first line left wing on the depth chart.

Did Not Play

Joey Keane sat out the second game of his two-game suspension as his Barrie Colts defeated the Flint Firebirds 6-4. Keane can return to action when the Colts next play which will be Thursday.
